JG Craig U15 Representative Turf Competition
Each year the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association runs the JG Craig Competition (formerly RM Hatch Competition) for U15 players. The competition is conducted in January and is played on quality turf wickets amongst the 28 Sub-District clubs. It is the premier U15 competition in the state.
To be eligible players must be under 15 years of age at the 1st September of the current season.
Elsternwick Cricket Club has a proud history in the competition having won in 1996/97, 1997/98 and 2001/02. The club was runner up in 2011/12.
Elsternwick generally fields a team that is a mix of the best current Elsternwick junior players and other elite juniors from south east metropolitan clubs. As such, the team is of representative standard. Some boys who have played for the club have gone on to play first class cricket are Cameron White and Aiden Blizzard.
The club provides coaching via experienced Senior players. Trials to select the squad are usually held in September / October with training continuing through November / December before matches played over two weeks in the January school holidays.
Matches are 40 overs per side and start at 10:00 am, finishing at 4:20 pm, with a 40-minute lunch break scheduled from 12:50 pm.
Elsternwick competes in the South Group against Brighton, Caulfield, Malvern, Moorabbin, Oakleigh and Ormond. After the six preliminary rounds, the two top teams in the group progress to the finals, where they play against the top ranked teams of the North, East and West Groups.
