About Elsternwick Cricket Club
Elsternwick Cricket Club is a community based cricket club based in Melbourne, Australia. Our home base is Elsternwick Park, which is approximately 10 km south east of the Melbourne CBD. The club is affiliated with the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association (VSDCA) and the South East Cricket Association (SECA).
The club fields four senior teams in the VSDCA, Victoria's second most senior turf competition. These teams play on Saturday afternoons between 1pm and 6 pm in a 28 team competition. The VSDCA is split into four geographically aligned groups of seven teams. Elsternwick is in the South group and so has developed a healthy rivalry with fellow South group clubs which each XI plays once every season. The First and Second XI's play against one of the other three groups (North, East, West) every season on a rotating basis. The Third and Fourth XI's play against the East Group.
Our junior teams play in the SECA on Friday nights and Saturday Mornings at Ovals 3 and 4 on synthetic wickets, and at Elwood Primary School (modified under 12). We currently field 8 junior teams in the SECA, and this aspect of our club continues to grow. Each age group has a head coach that coordinates all training sessions, and a strong aspect of our club is that every junior team is coached by a current or former junior player, with the assistance of parent team managers. We believe that this develops our older junior players in more than just their cricket skills and gives our young players a view of where they are heading with their cricket.
The club shares Elsternwick Park with co-tenants the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) and the Elsternwick Amateur Football Club (EAFC). The main oval is ranked the highest ground in the Bayside Council along with the Trevor Barker Oval, and as such is a top ground in the association. Recently the watering system has been connected to storm water from the Elster Canal and as such the playing surface is gradually returning to its former glory. The watering system also provides water to Oval 2 where the 3rd and 4th XI's play and the ground is a stand out in the competition for that level of cricket. We are also fortunate to still be using turf practice wickets, where due to water restrictions many clubs have had to move to synthetic only training. This coupled with our synthetic training facilities on Oval 2 and at Elwood Primary (recently upgraded) provide Elsternwick players with the best opportunity to further their cricketing skills.
Elsternwick Park is well serviced for public transport with the Sandringham train line, Glenhuntly tram line and numerous bus routes passing close by the ground. The closeness to the CBD and public transport make Elsternwick Cricket Club an ideal destination for cricketers working in the city or living in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs.
The club is an Incorporated association (registration number A0006109W) and has Rules, By Laws, Policies and Codes of Conduct that can be found elsewhere on this site. The club has an ABN 32 032 254 217.
The club holds a Restricted Club Liquor Licence (#31409134) and is accredited as a Level 3 Good Sports Club.
